Innovating Regional Wastewater
Just over 40,000 people live in the idyllic settings around Lake Taupo in the centre of New Zealand’s North Island and the tourist town’s population often increases to around 150,000 at various times throughout the year.
Along with being one of the country’s busiest holiday destinations in the summer months, Taupo is famous for its exciting calendar of motorsport, cycling, iron man and festival events and this influx of visitors regularly tests the region’s infrastructure and requires careful ongoing management.
Chris Hector, an electrical consultant working for Taupo District Council, says that ensuring continuity of service in water and wastewater for residents and guests is a critical factor in maintaining Taupo as one of New Zealand premium tourist destinations…

Futureproofing Lake Whakatipu water level monitoring at Glenorchy - ORC
An upgrade of monitoring equipment at the Glenorchy boat ramp this week will improve the reliability of the information the Otago Regional Council collects about Lake Whakatipu level changes.
During 14-15 January, the existing solar-powered water level recorder will be upgraded and raised an extra 2.1 metres, which will ensure it can keep monitoring during very high lake levels…

Samoa’s airport is getting two new Ventech Systems weather monitoring enclosures
Building a weather monitoring enclosure for MetService is an honor and a great opportunity to put them to the test – particularly when you pass all necessary standards.
Our newly designed weather monitoring enclosures will soon be based at the Faleolo International Airport site at Fuailao in Samoa. The frangibility assessment and particular design had never been accessed on our enclosures before so needed to be calculated to comply with all standards for New Zealand's national meteorological service and international civil aviation organization (ICAO) frangibility ruling. Ventech Systems is very pleased and proud about the result, another certification and the new door opening into the Pacific…

Critical Communication in Off-Grid Installations
When it comes to critical communications for police, fire brigades, ambulances or councils, the regulations around installations become strictly regulated. These first responders need to be able to communicate and coordinate on a day-to-day basis and in particular through natural disasters. Therefore, on the hill tops around New Zealand’s capital city Wellington there are …

Battery protection is essential
Every single battery company claims that their batteries will work at a temperature range from at least -20°C up to 30°C or higher. “That is simply not true even when you look at the graphs they provide with their battery features. Batteries in outdoor installations need a quality enclosure to house them and to keep their temperature stable!” Batteries are the engine room and therefore, battery protection is essential!
